SailTactix — Quick Reference
Building a Route
Type mark names in the Route Plotter field — e.g. A B Basin C
Tap a mark on the map to append it to the route
Right-click / long-press a mark (2 s) to open the edit menu: override rounding side, set a crew reminder, go Direct To, or remove that leg visit
Rounding direction (port/starboard) is calculated automatically from course geometry
A faint red dashed line connects your GPS position to the next waypoint
Cheater Bar
The top strip shows the full route with magnetic bearings between marks
The active (next) waypoint is highlighted with a fuchsia border
On mobile, scroll left/right to see all waypoints
Race Course
Select a venue (e.g. Davis Island YC) and a pre-defined course number to auto-fill the route
Choose Custom (No Preset) to build a course entirely from scratch — tap marks or add custom waypoints; wind fetch area updates dynamically to encompass your route
Tap a mark to add it to the route; right-click / long-press to open the edit menu
Multi-character mark names show as pills; names longer than 10 characters show the first two letters with the full name on hover
Floating Buttons (right side)
N / Track-Up — toggles north-up vs. heading-up map orientation
Zoom Fit — appears when GPS is active with a waypoint; fits the ship and next mark in view; turns blue when auto-tracking
GPS ⊕ — tap to start tracking your position; tap again to re-center; tap while centered to stop tracking
PING START ⚑ — opens a start line panel; choose Signal Boat (committee end), Pin End (buoy end), or Generic Start Point — each drops a mark at your GPS position; when both Signal and Pin are placed, a start line is drawn and a Start Line waypoint is automatically inserted at the front of your route — GPS navigation, the nav bar, and the purple heading line all target the nearest point on the line; Signal/Pin and Generic Start are mutually exclusive (placing one removes the other with a confirmation); tap the button again or × to close (hidden in race mode)
RACE — enter race mode (see below)
GPS & Track Vector
A sailboat icon shows your position, oriented to your COG
An orange vector line projects ahead; tick marks = minutes, major ticks are labeled
Drag the map to unlock auto-follow; tap the GPS button again to re-center and re-lock
Course Status Bar
Shows LEG number, NEXT waypoint name, and PLAN (rounding side or crew reminder)
‹ › buttons step through waypoints manually
Auto-advances when within ~0.04 NM of the active mark
Race Mode
Tap RACE to lock the route; the button turns red and the route field becomes read-only
Mark taps open a crew reminder menu instead of appending to the route
Available reminders: Jibe, Tack, Hoist (↑), Jibe Set, Bear-Away Set, Douse (↓), Mexican Drop (↓), Windward/Leeward Douse (↓), Sail Change, Peel, Reef (↓ M), Shake Reef (↑ M) — arrows and M (mainsail) subscripts appear on cheater bar labels and the PLAN field
Direct To (requires GPS active) in the mark menu navigates directly to any mark; requires confirmation while locked
Tap RACE again to exit and unlock the route
Custom Marks
Long-press / right-click an empty spot on the map to drop a custom mark — enter a name in the popup (default is usr1, usr2, etc.)
Name a custom mark Signal or Pin to define the ends of a start line; the line draws automatically when both are placed
Right-click / long-press a custom mark to add it to the route, Rename it, go Direct To, or delete it
Custom marks work in the Route Plotter text field just like fixed marks
